SECTION IV
White Balance:
In digital photography you can set WB as you like and go back to previous setting. For perfect color rendering set according to the quality of available light: daylight: sun, cloud, shade; artificial light: bulb, fluorescent.
Color Temperature:
WB depends on Color Temperature indicating the “color” of light and measured in Kelvin degrees:
Daylight: 5.500 K°, flash and strobe: 5.500 K° Tungsten light: 3.200 K°, bulb: 2.500 K°
In the past there were two different kinds of film to be used in different lighting conditions:
AL AVAILABLE LIGHT Daylight 5500 K° - Tungsten 3200 K°.
FILM:
Daylight Color Film Tungsten Film - Type B.
Primary and Complementary Colors:
In postproduction you can balance colors going to Photoshop Color Mode:
Image > Mode > RGB color or CYMK color.
RGB: Primary colors: Red, Green and Blue
Internet and digital printing.
CYMK: Complementary colors: Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Black for OFF-SET printing only.
SECCTION VIII
File managing and adjusting.
Transfer your photos to computer through a memory card reader.
Memory card:
Compact Flash
GB
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128
400x = reading/writing speed 90MB/s
UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access )
After transferring you can do your editing using a software as Aperture (Apple), Bridge (Adobe), etc.
They allow you to pick the good files (both .row and .jpg) open, named and save.
Shooting extensions:
.jpg compressed low resolution, camera processes, Internet (email, web sites, ect.)
.raw compressed high resolution, you processes after transfering to computer.
PHOTOSHOP:
Photoshop allows you to adjust and eventually manipulate a file.
Photojournalists don’t like to spend time at the computer, so they don’t use Photoshop much. Photos are supposed to be perfect.
If necessary open the layer window, create a background copy and work with layers.
.jpg: compressed low resolution, camera processes, Internet (email, web sites, ect.)
.raw: compressed high resolution, you processes after transfering to computer
.tiff: not compressed, high resolution, for printing
.psd: Photoshpo working file (you can save keeping layers open)
Image size: .tiff or .jpg
35 MB (PRO HI RES) DPI: 300, for printing
.jpg only
2 MB (LOW RES) DPI: 73, for the Internet
FTP
FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL
To transfer a high-resolution file you can use an application as Cyberduck. It allows you to transfer a file directly to the client web page.
There are also some web sites you can use to mail heavy files as: www.mailthisfile.com
Pixel: Picture Element, the smallest unit of picture that can be represented or controlled;
Bit: Binary Unit, Basic Unit of information;
DPI: Dots Per Inches.
