Sections VI & VIII

SECTION IV White Balance: In digital photography you can set WB as you like and go back to previous setting. For perfect color rendering set according to the quality of available light: daylight: sun, cloud, shade; artificial light: bulb, fluorescent. Color Temperature: WB depends on Color Temperature indicating the “color” of light and measured in Kelvin degrees: Daylight: 5.500 K°, flash and strobe: 5.500 K° Tungsten light: 3.200 K°, bulb: 2.500 K° In the past there were two different kinds of film to be used in different lighting conditions: AL AVAILABLE LIGHT Daylight 5500 K° - Tungsten 3200 K°. FILM: Daylight Color Film Tungsten Film - Type B. Primary and Complementary Colors: In postproduction you can balance colors going to Photoshop Color Mode: Image > Mode > RGB color or CYMK color. RGB: Primary colors: Red, Green and Blue Internet and digital printing. CYMK: Complementary colors: Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Black for OFF-SET printing only. SECCTION VIII File managing and adjusting. Transfer your photos to computer through a memory card reader. Memory card: Compact Flash GB 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 400x = reading/writing speed 90MB/s UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access ) After transferring you can do your editing using a software as Aperture (Apple), Bridge (Adobe), etc. They allow you to pick the good files (both .row and .jpg) open, named and save. Shooting extensions: .jpg compressed low resolution, camera processes, Internet (email, web sites, ect.) .raw compressed high resolution, you processes after transfering to computer. PHOTOSHOP: Photoshop allows you to adjust and eventually manipulate a file. Photojournalists don’t like to spend time at the computer, so they don’t use Photoshop much. Photos are supposed to be perfect. If necessary open the layer window, create a background copy and work with layers. .jpg: compressed low resolution, camera processes, Internet (email, web sites, ect.) .raw: compressed high resolution, you processes after transfering to computer .tiff: not compressed, high resolution, for printing .psd: Photoshpo working file (you can save keeping layers open) Image size: .tiff or .jpg 35 MB (PRO HI RES) DPI: 300, for printing .jpg only 2 MB (LOW RES) DPI: 73, for the Internet FTP FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL To transfer a high-resolution file you can use an application as Cyberduck. It allows you to transfer a file directly to the client web page. There are also some web sites you can use to mail heavy files as: www.mailthisfile.com Pixel: Picture Element, the smallest unit of picture that can be represented or controlled; Bit: Binary Unit, Basic Unit of information; DPI: Dots Per Inches.
